Fall Recreational Soccer
North Whidbey Soccer Club is currently holding registration for fall recreational soccer.
The season runs from early September through Oct. 29 and is open to age groups U6 to U14.
All U6 to U8 games will be played at Fort Nugent Park on Saturdays.? U10 to U14 teams will play in the Whidbey Island Soccer League (WISL) with games on Saturdays up and down the island.
Early registration is now open ($75 by July 4). Regular registration begins July 5 ($85 by Aug. 5), and Late Registration begins Aug. 6 ($95 by Aug. 19).
The NWSC Soccer Academy offers summer training for boys and girls in age groups U8 to U14.? Practices are held on Wednesdays with a specialized soccer coach.? Registration is $65 for the 10-week session, prorated for late registrants.

Kidz Lover Soccer
North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is offering a summer session of the Kidz Love Soccer Instructional program from July 11 through Aug. 29.
Classes meet on Monday afternoons and are available for parent/child through age 10. The fee is $63.

VFW Golf Tournament
VFW Post 7392 invites golfers to participate in the 15th annual VFW Scholarship Golf Tournament Saturday, July 16, at 8:30 a.m. at the Gallery Golf Course..
The 18-hole tournament is followed by a picnic at the V-Dome at the VFW Post at 3037 N. Goldie Road. Golfers eat for free, guests can join in for $5.
The entry fee is $50. Prizes will be offered on KPs on all par 3 holes, longest drive on No. 2 and a chipping pot at the V-Dome.? The tournament format is modified-Peoria handicap, six blind holes.

3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District is hosting its First Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Classic Fundraiser Saturday, July 23, at South Whidbey High School.
The event is sponsored by Rotary of South Whidbey to purchase and install a state-of-the-art outdoor basketball court in Community Park.
The local charitable organization?s latest community project is led by Louis Muniz, local Rotary member and employee of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Muniz approached the board of park commissioners and asked for permission to seek funding for the court modernization.? Without hesitation, the board of park commissioners gave their blessing and Muniz began gathering support from the SW Rotary and leading the charge for the basketball fundraiser.
Muniz, a graduate of South Whidbey High School, is passionate about outdoor basketball and wants to give the community an opportunity to participate in tournaments and keep kids and adults active in basketball. Muniz plays regularly at Community Park and recognizes the constraints of the park district?s budget in building such an outdoor court as the one he is hoping to complete this year.
All proceeds will go toward the construction of an official outdoor basketball court at South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District?s Community Park off Maxwelton Road.

Alumni Football Game
Alumni Football USA is providing graduates an opportunity to relive the glory of Friday Night Lights.
The organization is helping area cities, including Oak Harbor, put together a football teams of graduates for a single full-contact game this fall.
Alumni Football USA provides all the equipment, insurance, officials, security and emergency personnel for the game.
Once players commit, they organize their own practices in preparation for the game, according to spokeswoman Hollie Fortkamp.

Boat Registration
Boat registrations expire June 30 in Washington state.
Boat registrations can be renewed online and in person at a neighborhood vehicle licensing office. Those who choose to renew in an office should make sure to note the registration number on the bow of the boat or watercraft and take that information with them.
Renewing online at dol.wa.gov is fast, easy and secure. Boat owners who have not yet signed up to receive email renewal notices for their boat can do that on the Department of Licensing website, too.

Youth Basketball Camp
The Wolf Pup Basketball Camp, presented by the Coupeville High School boys and girls basketball teams, hits the floor July 18 to 20 from 10 a.m. until noon at the CHS gym.
The camp is open to first through sixth graders and will give participants the chance to learn the fundamentals of basketball and improve their skills.

The Coupeville Community Education is emphasizing "Commit to be Fit!" with classes starting July 5 in Zumba, sculpt and tone, aerobics, karate and adult basketball.

The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program.
The goal is to get participants to want to work out, to love working out and to get hooked.
The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you?ve got a Zumba class.

The class is for adults, runs July 5 to Aug. 11 Tuesday and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Coupeville Elementary School multipurpose room and costs $50.
The sculpt and tone class includes stretching, core work, and muscle isolation, resulting in a full-body workout.
The class combines aerobic, flexibility and strength training in a positive, energizing environment.
The exercises are designed to increase flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.
Strength training for individuals over 30 helps re-build muscle tissue and increases bone density which reduces the risk of osteoporosis.
Reports also indicate that a moderate strength training program can also combat the effects of diabetes, arthritis and depression.
All fitness levels are welcome, the instructor will modify movements according to individual needs and limitations.

The class if for adults, runs July 5 to Aug. 6 on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30-9:39 a.m. at the Coupeville Elementary School multipurpose room and costs $50.
The step aerobics class involves the use of a bench with varied moves on and off the bench or comparable moves on the floor.
Participants will use weights, bands and balls for muscle toning and exercise to improve flexibility and balance.

The class if for adults, runs July 6 to Aug. 10 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Coupeville Elementary School multipurpose room and costs $45.
In Seibukan karate, participants will experience physical conditioning and self-defense techniques through basic karate exercise.
Students will learn alternatives to violence, improve balance and stability, and develop self discipline and self confidence.
The class is open to anyone 7 years of older. The beginners? class will run 6 to 7 p.m. and the returning students will stay until 7:30.

Polo Governor's Cup
The sixth annual Pacific Northwest Polo Association's Governor's Cup will take place July 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in La Conner.
Twelve teams will compete in this year?s event, hosted by George Dill. Tony Gregg will be back as the announcer and spectators will learn what a chucker is, how important the line of the ball is and why the riders need so many horses to play the game.
Viewers can take part in the "divot stomping" at halftime and are invited to bring a picnic lunch and lawn chair and join the tailgate party.
The event will be catered by Rexville Grocery.
Admission is $5 per car for the day.
Polo lessons are also available at the polo field on George Dill?s property and taught by Tiamo Hudspeth from Maui.

CWSA Classes
The Central Whidbey Sportsman?s Association is offering a series of shooter training/safety classes.
Hunter education classes, consisting of four sessions, will be Aug. 3 to 6, Aug. 24 to 27, Sept. 7 to 10 and Sept. 21 to 24.

Triathlon
The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District and NAS Whidbey NWR are co-spronsoring the Seaplane Sprint Triathlon Sunday, Aug. 21.
The race will take place on the Seaplane Base portion of NAS Whidbey Island and no special passes for access will be required for participants, volunteers and spectators.
The race will consist of a 500-yard swim in Crescent Harbor, a 12-mile bike ride and a 2.7 mile run.
Participants will be divided into 11 age groups, and relay groups of men, women and mixed will be divided by combined age.
Awards will be given to the top three in each division, and all participants will receive a T-shirt if registered before Aug. 8.

Whidbey Island Running Cub

North Whidbey Aquatic Club
The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.
Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.
