Every household will experience some plumbing problems in their piping and drainage system after a while and the need to call in a plumber. These plumbing problems can be categorized into the piping system that carries water into homes, drainage system that clears the used water and lastly fixtures like toilet bowls, faucets that acts as the intermediary. The three areas are often the common household repairs by a plumber.
One of the most common plumbing repair works by a plumber is unclogging a choke in the drainage system. This can commonly be seen as a choked toilet bowl, basin or the shower area. Depending on the severity of the clog, the plumber uses different methods and tools to assist them in the repair. For mild clogs, a plunger can often solve the problem. Alternatively, he may use a hand operated cable called a closet auger to clear the choke by pushing the cable he fed into the drainage system through the clog. For stubborn chokages, he may use an electric one for additional power. These plumbing tools either push the clog through or cut up the clog to allow water to flow smoothly again. However, as our drainage system can be running underground or concealed in walls and thus, if the chokage or leakages affect such areas, the plumbing work by the plumber will be more intense with drilling and hacking involved and definitely a higher plumber bill.
The second most common repair is related to the fixtures such as toilet bowl tanks, faucets etc. Often, such fixtures will break down over time and leaks will occur. A faucet may start to leak due to a worn washer or cartridge while a toilet bowl tanks may experienced a faulty flushing cistern or malfunctioning flap valve that cause water to leak after flushing. Depending on the area of faults, the plumber will repair the leaks, replace the worn parts or change the whole fixture. Alternatively, you can attempt to repair minor problems yourself such as a worn washer and save calling in the plumber.
The third common plumbing repair by a plumber is related to the piping system that carries water into the household. The pipes are made of various types of materials and joined together with various methods such as soldering or solvent welding. When a leak occurs at the piping system, the water pressure may cause the leak to deteriorate rapidly with gallons of water gushing out and flooding the affected area, destroying your precious property. Thus, any leaks in the water piping system must be attended to immediately. A plumber with his equipment will be able to plug the leak and ensure your piping system is restored to normal. Sometime, leaks can occur in concealed walls, thus, it will also be prudent to get a plumber down for regular maintenance as he will be able to detect such hidden leaks and carry out the necessary repairs before it get worse.
